Why choose Park Walk School for your child?
Early Years Foundation Stage - Nursery and Reception
Thank you for your interest in Park Walk School. We know that choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions that you will make, and on this page you will find information about our Nursery and Reception classes, which will hopefully make the decision easier for you.
We are aware that starting school may be a big and potentially scary change for young children and their families. At Park Walk our experienced, friendly and dedicated teachers and support staff work hard to provide a warm and welcoming environment for all the children, to help ensure that your child settles easily and happily into school from their very first day with us.
Our Nursery and Reception classes offer a stimulating and nurturing environment where the children learn through a combination of play, exploration and direct teaching. We strive to ensure that all children in our Early Years not only achieve their potential in reading, writing and maths by the time they leave Reception for Year 1, but more importantly, that they develop strong friendships and a love for learning, which will stay with them throughout their educational journey.
At Park Walk our goal is for your child to be Happy, Safe and Full of Learning every day.
Through inspiring lessons, stimulating topics and exciting play-resources children are able to make rapid progress across the seven ‘Areas of Learning’ in the Early Years, which form the basis for our curriculum.
These are: Personal Social and Emotional Development
Communication & Language
Understanding the World
Expressive Art and Design
A typical week in Nursery and Reception at Park Walk involves both daily phonics lessons, in which children start learning to read and write, as well as daily maths lessons, in which children learn to count, read and write numbers, solve simple equations and have fun with lots of mathematical concepts, such as shape, weighing and measuring, and time. Over each week children will also learn about our topics, such as Under the Sea, Traditional Tales, and Animals, as well as spend time one-to-one with an adult, working on focused activities. Most importantly your child will also be given lots of time to learn through exploration, investigation and play with their friends!
At Park Walk we understand that an interested and engaged child is a learning child. Therefore, in addition to our half-termly topics, our experienced teachers take into account children’s own individual interests to ensure that our daily activities and lessons are tailored to what will stimulate and challenge your child, to help them achieve their potential across the curriculum.
Park Walk is also fortunate to benefit from our own Outdoor Classroom, which our children have access to throughout each day. This offers lots of fun opportunities to climb, dig, plant, learn about our environment, hunt for minibeasts and have fun in the sandpit!
We are also extremely lucky to have our own swimming pool, and your child will therefore have free weekly swimming lessons from our qualified instructor, providing them with a crucial opportunity to learn to swim in a safe and familiar environment.
Nursery and Reception at Park Walk is a nurturing and caring place where children feel safe and secure. Children leave Reception for our Year 1 class with a strong foundation in reading, writing and maths, firm friendships and a love for learning.
